Joy Charbonneau Fresh Water Frozen Desire

April 2012 - June 2012

About the exhibition:

In "Fresh Water Frozen Desire", Toronto artist and architect Joy Charbonneau explores her fascination with the natural environment through two works: The Great Lakes and The North Pole. Starting with geological data, Charbonneau fabricates landscape as artifact, utilizing various media, modern technology and finishes them with handcraft. With collaborator Ed Zec, Charbonneau modeled the water of the Great Lakes in sand-cast aluminum to expose their depths. For the North Pole, Charbonneau made a series of eight relief paintings of the Arctic Ocean floor using laser-cut paper and gouache. The resulting objects are iconic, intricate and considered - well suited to the minimal, precision craftsmanship of bulthaup.
